Hello, and welcome to my tiny corner of the internets!
I offer distinctive hand-built clay lamps, birds, small dishes, flower bricks, and other useful works of art. My original designs brighten homes and workspaces, and bring cheer to friends, clients, and family.
Ker Cleary Art pieces, well-made and sturdy, reside comfortably in that broad, familiar ground between overly tidy and mildly disheveled.
About me: I have played and worked in clay off and on since the mid 1970s (earlier, if you count Play-Doh). Clay has been a companion, a means of expression and exploration, and the medium where I was always at home. A few years ago, I finally realized my dream of having a backyard studio and kiln, and since then my work has moved in interesting directions I could never have foreseen. There’s a lot to be said for solitude and its impact on the creative process.
Selling at markets and fairs, and galleries balances out the isolation of studio time. It is a joy to share my work with other people. I feel delight when someone comes to my booth and sees the lamps, or when I show them how the little birds rock, and they chuckle. Community is nourished by the sharing of our skills and talents with each other. Yes, I will share my lamp-making tips with anyone who asks!
I currently work in mid-fire stoneware clay using commercial glazes, but—as with everything—that could change. I have some lovely clay I dug in my own backyard, just waiting to collaborate with my hands and heart and brain (such as it is).
Someday, I swear, I will get the online shop up and running!
